Cheadle FM launched on Saturday 23 May with Rob Kates’ trademark ‘Morning Show’ and has been on air 24 hours a day ever since.
We have overcome many challenges during our short life: the ‘fast and furious’ set up phase which took us from first idea to air in less than a month; the slightly less hectic, but still very busy, broadcast phase, with the hard work of transmission and streaming, including Alexa, as well as the constant process of production, editing and compliance checking.
What we have never lost through these weeks has been the enthusiasm or commitment of our volunteers, contributors and listeners which has given Cheadle FM a very special feel.
Looking ahead, it seemed right to the CFM board not to seek an extension of our COVID license as that would have been too costly, both financially and in terms of wear and tear on our people.
That said, we believe that Cheadle FM has filled an important need by ‘Bringing Cheadle Together’ and so we are looking at ways in which we can, with others, continue to meet that need in the future with a wider support base, greater content and increased audience. We will be sharing news about how this will look in due course.
Meanwhile, we will be playing our last shows today Tuesday 30 June) and Rob Kates will be doing a special live show between 7pm and 8pm. Don’t miss it!
Once again, a massive thank you to all our supporters, notably the Brookfield Shiers Family Trust. It’s been a blast!
